Officers in the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at Transylvania University are commissioned as peace officers through the Secretary of Justice. They participate in ongoing professional training and maintain certifications in first aid, the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
DPS officers collaborate regularly with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. They attend meetings with their counterparts from the Lexington Police Department, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Kentucky State Police, and the University of Kentucky Police Department to address shared concerns and criminal activity in the surrounding area.
To ensure the safety of the university community, DPS offers both in-person and virtual safety escort services for students, faculty, and staff when safety is a concern.
