Transy Theater opens 2018-19 season under new direction

Transylvania Theater season debut 2018-19

An aspiring young director rampages against the art created by his mother’s generation. A young actress wrestles with an aging Hollywood star for the affections of a renowned novelist. And everyone discovers just how disappointing love, art, and growing up can be.

Transylvania’s theater season kicks off Nov. 1 with an irreverent, contemporary, and very funny remix of Chekhov’s The Seagull by playwright Aaron Posner.  In the play “Stupid F***ing Bird,” Posner stages a timeless battle between young and old, past and present, in search of the true meaning of it all.

The production is also the directorial debut at Transylvania for the new Lucille C. Little chair of theatre and program director Tosha Fowler.

“It is an exciting time to be at Transy directing my first production for the theater program. Over half of our spunky cast and crew are first-years, so there are a lot of exciting ‘firsts’ happening,” Fowler said.

Featuring an ensemble of writers, actors and those who choose to watch, the production incites the audience to consider how art, love and revolution fuel the pursuit of happiness.

“This is a great opportunity for audiences to experience a joyous — and cheeky — evening of theater with the latest, very talented generation of Transy Theater,” Fowler said.

Given the nature of the play’s title, the show is intended mature audiences only – it contains mature language and adult content.

Stupid F***ing Bird runs Nov. 1-10. Tickets are free, but must be reserved in advance.
