Transylvania wins Battle of the Bumpers for 10th straight year

LEXINGTON, Ky.—Transylvania University once again put more license plates on the road than any other independent college in Kentucky, winning the Battle of the Bumpers for the 10th straight year.The university received $10,110 to put toward scholarships for selling 1,011 plates in 2017, according to the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities. Transylvania beat out the other 19 campuses in the AIKCU, which sponsors the annual competition. “Every year I’m impressed by the generosity and dedication of the university’s supporters,” said Natasa Pajic Mongiardo ‘96, director of alumni relations. “Our winning streak doesn’t surprise me, though, because of how many Transy plates I see on the road. It’s great way to not only show school pride, but also to assist current and future students. Transylvania wins AIKCU’s annual “Battle of the Bumpers” contest for fifth year running

LEXINGTON, Ky.—With the help of alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends, Transylvania University is once again the winner in the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) “Battle of the Bumpers.” Transylvania beat out the other 19 AIKCU campuses to put the most campus license plates on Kentucky highways and the most dollars in the school’s general scholarship fund. Transylvania’s efforts helped increase their total sales to 901 in 2012, an increase of 49 license plates over 2011. Ten dollars from the sale of each plate is returned directly to the school’s general scholarship fund, translating into $9,010 for student scholarships at Transylvania. Overall, sales of Kentucky Independent Higher Education plates raised more than $47,900 for student scholarships in 2012. “In the last two years, we’ve increased our license plate sales and renewals by 36 percent,” said John Davis, director of annual giving. “Even though I’m thrilled about this accomplishment, the students are the ultimate winners. Transylvania’s promotional efforts helped increase their total sales to 852 in 2011, an increase of 84 license plates over 2010. Ten dollars from the sale of each plate is returned directly to the school’s general scholarship fund, translating into $8,520 for student scholarships at Transylvania. Overall, sales of Kentucky Independent Higher Education plates raised more than $45,000 for student scholarships in 2011. “Our license plate really stands out on the road,” said Natasa Pajic Mongiardo, director of alumni programs. “Each year I’m more impressed by the number of alumni and friends who purchase or renew the Transylvania plate and support the student scholarships. LEXINGTON, Ky.—With the help of alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends, Transylvania University is once again the winner in the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) “Battle of the Bumpers.” After back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2009, Transylvania aggressively promoted its plates again in 2010, beating out the other 19 AIKCU campuses to put the most campus license plates on Kentucky highways and the most dollars in the school’s general scholarship fund. Transylvania’s efforts helped increase their total sales to 768, an increase of 33 license plates over 2009. Ten dollars from the sale of each plate is returned directly to the school’s general scholarship fund, translating into $7,680 for student scholarships at Transylvania. Overall, sales of Kentucky Independent Higher Education plates raised almost $42,000 for student scholarships in 2010. “I am impressed with the number of alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends who choose to show their Transylvania pride with a white and crimson license plate,” said Transylvania President R. LEXINGTON, Ky.—With the help of alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends, Transylvania University is the winner in the 2009 Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU) “Battle of the Bumpers,” taking the title for the second year in a row. The contest is an annual competition among the 20 AIKCU campuses to put the most campus license plates on Kentucky highways, and in turn raise the most money for student scholarships. To win, Transylvania supporters purchased or renewed 735 license plates. In 2008, Transy supporters purchased or renewed 689 license plates to help Transylvania top the AIKCU campus totals. The custom plates advertise allegiance to Transylvania while supporting current students; $10 from the sale of each plate is returned directly to Transy’s general scholarship fund. “I am impressed with the number of alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends who choose to show their Transylvania pride on their license plates,” said Transylvania President Charles L. Shearer.  “In particular, the support of our loyal alumni has been remarkable.” The Kentucky Independent Higher Education series plates took to the roads in 2002.
