Show your school spirit this Leap Day: Leap Together for Transy

Rainbow in front of the Carpenter Academic Center.

In just a few days, Transylvania will hold its annual day of giving, and Pioneers worldwide will be called to leap Together for Transy on Thursday, Feb. 29.

You can get involved by taking part in one of the university’s unique giving challenges, tailored to fit a wide variety of availability and interests. From Pioneer parent challenges to opportunities to give no matter where in the world you are located, Together for Transy is a chance to display your Pioneer pride and contribute to today’s student experience.

The Office of Alumni and Development will be live-tracking unique donors for the first time — which will be extremely valuable as they check progress toward the 2024 unique donor goal. This year’s goal is 1,024 donors — one giver for each student who enrolled at Transylvania in the 2023-24 academic year.

Members of the Barr Society can give early as part of the “Raise the Barr for Transy” challenge, which is going on now through Thursday. Sponsored by Mike Bales and Andy Stone Bales ’64, and Dick Waddell ’64, these donors will make a dollar-for-dollar match up to $15,000 for any gifts made as part of this challenge.

If you’re a Pioneer who has settled outside the Commonwealth, be sure your new home is represented in the “On the Map” challenge.  Billie Jo Hall Setzer ’89 and Brett Setzer will contribute $500 for every state where a gift is made (up to $25,000), so whether you are far from home or down the street, your donation can be amplified.

Scholarship donations can have a transformative effect on the lives of our current and future students. To that end, Prakash Maggan ’97 and Britt Reynolds ’85 will make a dollar-for-dollar match up to $50,000 for any gifts to the Scholarship Fund during Together for Transy.

As part of the Reunion Challenge, the Class of 1974 — celebrating their 50th reunion this year — is challenging all reunion classes to join forces with their gifts and will match $50,000 of their reunion contributions. In addition to 1974, this year’s reunion classes include 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019.

And a returning fan favorite, the Heart and Sole challenge, which kicks off at 2 p.m., will send an exclusive pair of Transylvania socks to the first 200 donors who make a gift of $35 or more to either The Transylvania Fund or the Scholarship Fund.

Visit together.transy.edu to learn more about this year’s exciting challenges and giveaways, as well as to spread the word about Together for Transy by volunteering as a rallier. Challenges will continue to be added and updated through Thursday. All timed challenges are listed in Eastern Standard Time. Your generosity allows us to continue providing an exceptional educational experience for today’s Transylvanians.
