Transylvania names director of admissions

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Transylvania President Charles L. Shearer announced today that after an extensive search, Bradley L. Goan has been named directorof admissions, effective August 15. Deana Ison, senior associate director of admissions, has been serving as interim director. Goan has served as the director of the Robinson Scholars Program at the University of Kentucky for the past five years. He has also served U.K. as assistant director of undergraduate admission and as admissions counselor. “I’m really pleased to have Mr. Goan join the Transylvania staff in this very important role,” said President Charles L. Shearer. “Brad brings a great deal of experience and knowledge to this position, and Transylvania is fortunate to have him join our admissions efforts.” Reporting to the president, the admissions director is responsible for all programs related to Transylvania’s recruitment, admission and enrollment efforts. “Transylvania has an impressive history and an outstanding tradition of providing exceptional undergraduate education,” said Goan. “It is an institution that knows what it is about, and its commitments to the liberal arts and sciences, to intellectual inquiry and to critical thinking have never been more important to students than they are in our rapidly changing twenty-first century world. Performances, graduation highlight GSA final day

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Governor’s School for the Arts will wrap up its seventh year on the Transy campus on Saturday, with final performances in all disciplines preceding graduation ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. in Haggin Auditorium. Final performances, including those in instrumental and vocal music, musical theater, visual arts, drama, and architecture, will begin at various campus locations at 12:30 p.m. All final day events are open to GSA parents, friends, and relatives as well as the public and media. Final performances will be held at the Mitchell Fine Arts Center, the Little Theater, the Shearer Art Building, the Haupt Humanities Building, Old Morrison, and the Cowgill Center. A total of 218 high school students from 46 counties and over 90 high schools have been on the Transylvania campus since June 18, immersed in a rigorous schedule of daily seminars, master classes, lectures, hands-on workshops, and field trips to local arts attractions.

The Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lexington Singers will treat the community to patriotic music

Sounds of patriotism will ring from the steps of Transylvania’s historic Old Morrison on Monday, July 3, as the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra and the Lexington Singers treat the community to Fourth of July favorites in their annual concert of patriotic music. The concert, which is free and open to the public, begins at 8 p.m. and draws upwards of 5,000 people who set out their blankets and chairs from the steps of Old Morrison to Gratz Park. The concert is sponsored by National City Bank, Keeneland and the Kentucky League of Cities.
