If you’ve been thinking about Transylvania University, now is a good time to take a closer look at your next steps.
Maybe you’ve visited campus and can picture yourself walking to class past Old Morrison. Maybe you’ve been comparing colleges, talking things over with your family and trying to figure out where you might fit. Or maybe Transy has been on your list for a while, and you’re finally ready to see where things go.
Wherever you are in the process, there’s one date worth putting on your calendar: Oct. 31.
That’s the application deadline for Transylvania’s Early Decision and Early Action I plans for students hoping to start college in fall 2027. And with that date just around the corner, we wanted to walk through what it means, what your options are and what to do if you’re not quite ready yet.
First, let’s talk about Oct. 31
Transy offers two early application options, and the difference between them is pretty important.
Early Decision is for students who know Transy is their first choice. It’s a binding commitment, meaning students admitted through Early Decision agree to enroll at Transylvania.
Early Action is for students who want to apply early but keep their options open. It’s nonbinding, so you can receive an admission decision while continuing to explore other colleges before making your final choice.
Both options offer priority consideration for admission and scholarships. The right one really comes down to how certain you feel about your decision.
If you’re still comparing schools, that’s perfectly fine. Early Action gives you room to do that.
And Oct. 31 isn’t your only opportunity to apply early. Transy’s second Early Action deadline is Dec. 1, giving you a little more time to work on your application and make sure you’re ready.
You can find the details on Transy’s application deadlines page.
You don’t need to have your whole future figured out
Choosing a college can feel like you’re supposed to make about a hundred decisions at once. Where will you live? What will you study? What kind of career do you want? What if you change your mind?
Here’s some good news: You don’t have to know all the answers before you get started.
One of the benefits of a liberal arts education is having room to explore. You might arrive thinking you know exactly what you want to study and discover something completely different. You might combine interests that don’t seem related at first. You might find a new direction because a professor asked a question that stuck with you.
At Transy, students can explore more than 40 majors and minors, learn alongside professors who get to know them and connect what happens in the classroom with experiences beyond it.
Through the Real-World Guarantee, every student has the opportunity to complete at least one high-impact learning experience through internships, study abroad or mentoring.
The point isn’t to arrive with everything figured out. It’s to find a place where you can keep asking questions, discovering what you’re good at and building toward what comes next.
Take a look at Transy’s academic programs and see what catches your attention. You might be surprised.
A few things that might make applying a little easier
College applications can seem complicated, but applying to Transy doesn’t have to be.
You can apply through the Transy Application or the Common Application. There’s no application fee.
Transy is also test-optional for domestic applicants. You can decide whether your ACT or SAT scores help tell your academic story, and students who apply without scores remain eligible for admission, merit scholarships and financial aid. If you choose not to submit scores, you’ll need to complete the additional essay requirement outlined on Transy’s test-optional admissions page.
Your high school transcript and application are important parts of the process. You can review the application requirements online or contact an admissions counselor if you’re unsure about anything.
And please, don’t feel like you have to sort through every question on your own. Admissions counselors are there to help you understand the process and figure out your next steps.
There’s another reason to keep Dec. 1 in mind
If scholarships are part of your college conversation (and for most families, they certainly are), Dec. 1 is worth remembering for another reason.
It’s the deadline to be considered for Transy’s Premier Scholarship Program. These scholarships recognize academic achievement, leadership and involvement, and finalists are invited to participate in an on-campus interview.
There’s also a little extra incentive to come see Transy in person. Students who complete an official campus visit before Dec. 1 and are admitted for fall 2027 will receive a renewable $1,000 Campus Visit Scholarship, totaling $4,000 over four years, under the university’s published terms.
You can find details about these opportunities on Transy’s scholarships page.
Come see what Transy feels like
We can tell you about the campus, the classes and the opportunities here. But some things are easier to understand when you’re actually here.
Take a walk around campus. Ask your tour guide what surprised them most about college. See the residence halls. Talk with an admissions counselor. Pay attention to the little things, too: the conversations happening between classes, the places where students gather and the feeling you get as you walk around.
A campus visit doesn’t mean you’ve made your decision. It’s simply a chance to get a better sense of whether a place could be right for you.
Transy’s daily visit experience includes a walking tour with a current student and an optional session with an admissions counselor. You can explore visit options and reserve your spot here.
So, what happens next?
Maybe your application is nearly finished and you’re ready to submit it by Oct. 31. Maybe Dec. 1 gives you the breathing room you need. Or maybe you still have questions about whether Transy is the right place for you.
All of those are reasonable places to be.
Start with the information you need. Talk things over with the people you trust. Ask an admissions counselor your questions. Come visit if you can.
And if Transy is a place you’re considering, don’t let uncertainty about every detail keep you from taking the next step.
You don’t have to know exactly what your future will look like to start building it.
Ready to learn more? Start your application or plan a visit to Transy. We’d love to show you around.
