APPLY

Applying to Transylvania University is designed to be simple, supportive and personal. Whether you are a first-year student, transfer student or international student, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

If you’re searching for a liberal arts community that values curiosity, integrity and ambition, Transy is where your next chapter begins. Located in the heart of Lexington, Kentucky, Transy offers a close-knit academic community where students are known, challenged and prepared to lead lives of purpose.

Why apply to Transylvania University? Because choosing where to apply is choosing the direction of your future. Transy is built for students who want a rigorous liberal arts education, meaningful mentorship and opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.

Transylvania University is test-optional. You may choose whether or not to submit ACT or SAT scores as part of your application. If you apply without test scores, you’ll still be fully considered through a holistic review that focuses on your academic record, essay, and other application materials. Test-optional students are equally eligible for admission, merit scholarships, and financial aid. Your choice to submit or not submit scores will not disadvantage you, and you can update your decision before an admission decision is made. International students may need to submit English proficiency scores unless otherwise approved.

  • If you are completing the Transylvania Application, you may submit a typed graded essay from your junior or senior year in high school.  Must be a minimum of 1-2 page essay.  Or you may choose to submit an essay based on answering one of the questions on the application.
  • If you are completing the Common Application, and choose to not submit your test scores, there are listed essay questions for this option

We’re looking for students who are curious learners, intentional thinkers and ready to shape what comes next.

Applying earlier can lead to earlier admission decisions and stronger consideration for scholarships. While the application timeline is flexible, starting sooner gives you more options and more time to plan. Make the timeline work for you — but don’t wait to take the first step.

Do I need test scores to apply to Transy?

No — Transylvania University is test-optional. Submit ACT or SAT scores only if you feel they strengthen your application and help tell your academic story.
