Africana Studies

Transylvania’s minor in Africana studies provides an immersive, interdisciplinary exploration of the historical, cultural and political experiences of African people and African-descended people throughout the world, including the United States, Caribbean and Latin America, and other regions. By integrating perspectives from a range of disciplines, including English, education, history, music, political science, psychology, sociology and religion, Africana studies students develop the critical and analytical tools needed to understand systemic inequalities, interrogate systems of power and articulate new visions of justice.
