Committee named to conduct search for Transylvania Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the University

Transylvania has launched its national search to select the next Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the University.  The selectee will serve on the president’s executive cabinet and oversee Transylvania’s library, study abroad program, writing center, first-year academic experience, registrar and career development office.

“As one of the nation’s top 100 liberal arts colleges and the nation’s 16th oldest university, we are seeking an innovative educator, administrator and scholar, as well as someone committed to advancing our modern liberal education mission,” said President Seamus Carey.

The position announcement is posted on Transylvania’s website and will be distributed nationally via major higher education publications. The application deadline for candidates is March 20.

The search committee is led by Professor of Biology Sarah Bray. Members include:

  • Rhyan Conyers – Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness
  • Elizabeth Corsun – Associate Professor of English; Program Director
  • Michael Covert – Dean of Students
  • Tracy Dunn – Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs
  • Melissa Fortner – Associate Professor of Psychology
  • Kim Jenkins – Associate Professor of Mathematics; Program Director
  • Johnnie Johnson – Director of Admissions
  • Gregory Partain – Professor of Music
  • Taran McZee – Associate Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion
  • Alison Begor – Director of Human Resources (ex officio)

Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Michael Cairo, a political science professor, is currently serving as the interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the University. He took over the role on Feb. 16.
