Transylvania University is celebrating graduating seniors at Saturday’s commencement on Old Morrison Lawn.
The 9 a.m. ceremony will feature the conferring of Bachelor of Arts degrees to 232 students, as well as a student address and other speakers offering advice and words of encouragement for the Class of 2025 and their families. Watch the livestream here, and get details in case of rain, which would move the event into the Beck Center.
Transylvania’s graduating seniors have many achievements to be proud of. Nearly 60% are graduating with Latin honors (3.5 GPA or higher) and with honors in individual programs.
Of this year’s seniors, one-third are headed to graduate or professional school, and 45% plan to join the workforce in a variety of fields, from accounting to teaching to the military. Others are strengthening their resumes through programs like the Peace Corps, post baccalaureate research programs and even the Disney College Program. While a number of students will continue their studies at graduate and professional programs at the University of Kentucky or University of Louisville, others are entering programs at New York University, University of California San Diego and Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
The student speaker for this year’s commencement is Alicyn Croley from Williamsburg, Kentucky. Croley is a cum laude double major in philosophy and political science, receiving program honors in each. She is a member of Transy’s NCAA DIII Elite Eight women’s volleyball team and served as president of Omicron Delta Kappa, vice president of Order of Omega and chair of member selection for Phi Alpha Delta. Croley also served as philanthropy director for Chi Omega. She will be attending law school after graduation.
