Transylvania Seminar

The Transylvania University Bingham Center for Teaching Excellence is excited to announce our inaugural BCTE Summer Seminar titled “Redefining & Celebrating the Liberal Arts.” During this national seminar, select faculty will engage with major scholars and each other to discuss ideas related to the question, “How does immersing ourselves and teaching in the liberal arts help us and our students flourish, engage our curiosity, share community and empower ourselves as scholars, teachers and people?”

At the BCTE Summer Seminar, faculty will engage with readings, share ideas, participate in conversations and work directly with experts through seminar-style discussions and workshops. Throughout the seminar, faculty will explore how teaching in the liberal arts in the present moment can be vital, engaging and empowering for themselves as individuals and for their students.

We welcome applications from internal and external applicants. All applications are due by March 13, 2026.

The seminar participants will include 13 faculty members selected from liberal arts colleges. Seminar sessions will be dedicated to discussing topics related to our main question, with a particular focus on anti-racist pedagogies, pedagogies of care and alternative assessment.

The seminar will be held on the campus of Transylvania University in the beautiful Bluegrass region of Lexington, Kentucky. Acceptance includes: 

  • The cost of the sessions. 
  • All seminar materials.
  • Four nights of hotel accommodations.  
  • Meals during the seminar. 
  • Associated travel costs and fees.
