An update on Alumni Weekend 2020 (March 20, 2020)

Alumni Weekend

The health and safety of the Transylvania University community are our highest priorities and we send our thoughts and wishes to you and the entire Transy family for continued health. To help minimize the potential for community spread of the COVID-19 virus, we have made the decision to cancel this year’s Alumni Weekend. This was not an easy decision, yet one that we had to make based on the University’s decision to follow the recommendations from the Center for Disease Control.

We know how excited alumni get about returning to campus, as do students, faculty and especially our alumni and development staff, to celebrate Pioneer connections in person. Please know that we highly value the work our five-year reunion committees have dedicated to reaching out to classmates, generating ideas for celebrating their reunions and helping with the class gift effort.

Alumni who have already registered for Alumni Weekend 2020 will receive information on options for fees paid. We are working on plans to invite this year’s reunion classmates back for class gatherings next April. This will translate into an even bigger celebration combined with alumni with 5-year reunions in 2021. More details on that to come.

In the meantime, we are also working to offer alumni across the globe a type of “virtual alumni weekend” experience this year. Watch for the date and time in the days ahead. There will be updates provided on Transy’s future and a celebration of our 240 years of history.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we move through these uncharted waters as Pioneers together. Please contact Natasa Pajic Mongiardo ’96, director of alumni relations, at nmongiardo@transy.edu, with any questions or suggestions!

And, please remember as mentioned in the email the alumni and development office sent you earlier this week, we are offering our alumni the chance to connect with one another as a mode of practical and emotional support. If you would like to reach out to other alumni or have needs with which we can help you, please email us at pioneerstogether@transy.edu.

In Pioneer Spirit,

Dr. John N. Williams Jr. ’74
