A message from Interim President and Mrs. Williams (March 22, 2020)

Interim President and Mrs. Williams

On Monday, March 23, Transylvania resumes winter term classes via remote instruction. Interim President John Williams and his wife, Lucy, shared a message with students, faculty, staff and the Transylvania community as the transition begins to online learning resulting from the current COVID-19 health situation.

“This is not the way in which we had hoped to finish out the academic year,” Williams said. “We have been working for the last several weeks as a senior administrative team with a variety of staff, and now all of our faculty members, to prepare them to provide the remote instruction for this time.”

“Our commitment is to maintain the health and safety of all members of the Transylvania community,” Williams shared.

“The Transylvania approach to liberal arts is one based upon relationships, and it’s the deep relationships that faculty form with their students, and students with other students, that’s the real hallmark of the Transylvania experience,” Williams said.

“It’s unfortunate that we find ourselves in this particular situation,” he continued. “But … the commitment of staff and faculty to work through this is truly remarkable and I’m so appreciative for their consummate commitment.”

“We’ll get through this. Transylvania will emerge a stronger institution,” Williams said.
