Transylvania community to go all in for New Student Move-In Day

New students move in at Transylvania University.

Members of the Transylvania University community are real standouts each year during New Student Move-In Day.

They stand out for their enthusiasm in greeting incoming students and families — and carrying belongings from the residence hall driveways to the rooms. They also stand out in T-shirts so brightly colored no motorist will fail to notice them.

It’s with this welcome that incoming students will begin their college journeys on Aug. 23.

“I absolutely love Move-In Day,” said Hannah Piechowski, director of student transitions and parent and family programs. “Our campus rallies around it — and we look forward to having the energy of our students back on campus. Every year our faculty, staff, coaches and their teams, alumni, parents and upperclass students are eager to help carry boxes, host hospitality tents, direct traffic and assist with check-in.”

Faculty, staff, students and others help make the day easier for new arrivals to campus.

Other events that day will include a Legacy Lunch for students whose family members attended Transy, tours of offices, a Taste of Kentucky Dinner and Dessert with the Deans.

Before fall term classes begin Sept. 3, Transylvania’s first-year students will participate in many other activities to help ease their transition into college — both academically and socially.

Also, here’s a handy checklist of what new students should bring to their new home away from home — and what not to bring (Fido will be perfectly happy at home).
