Campus housing information for Transylvania students (March 12, 2020)

Residence Hall

The health and safety of the Transylvania University community are our highest priorities. Earlier today Interim President Williams announced changes at Transylvania in response to the COVID‑19 public health crisis. Among the actions announced is that, if possible, residential students are asked to return to their permanent residences at this time.

As a result of today’s announcement, the residence halls will remain closed through April 5. However, we recognize that some students may need to return to their residence hall room briefly to gather a few personal items or may need to remain in their residence hall room during this time.

If you need to return to your residence hall room to gather personal items, you must do so by Tuesday, March 17. To access your room, you are REQUIRED to complete the Extended Housing Form by Monday, March 16, at 8 a.m. Requests to return and gather belongings will be automatically approved.

If you need to return and remain in your residence hall room through April 5, you must complete the Extended Housing Form by Monday, March 16, at 8 a.m. These requests to remain in campus housing will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. To remain in on-campus housing you must complete the Extended Housing Form and meet one of these criteria:

  • Reside outside of the United States (i.e. you are an international student)
  • Reside outside of Kentucky or a surrounding state (West Virginia, Tennessee, Virginia, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio)
  • Have an extenuating circumstance
  • Need access to the internet in order to complete courses being offered remotely March 23‑April 3.

Please note, any student who traveled overseas during spring break may not apply to return to campus.

We understand that these restrictions will cause significant inconveniences for many of you. Please know that we do not make these decisions lightly.

Public updates on Transylvania’s response are posted at www.transy.edu/health-alert. We will continue to provide updates on university activities and decisions in the days and weeks ahead and ask that you continue to monitor your email.
