Things to Know

Mitchell Fine Arts Center

Accessibility

Constructed between 1964‑1966, some parts of our facility may be difficult or even inaccessible to patrons in a wheelchair or with reduced mobility. Guests with any accessibility concerns are encouraged to call or email ahead for added assistance.

Entrances

  • Both of the MFA main entrances have significant steps. On the parking lot side of the building, there is an elevator to the left of the steps that allows access to both Haggin Auditorium and Carrick Theater.
  • The wooden ramp entrance offers wheelchair access to the Morlan Gallery. This ramp is not a viable entrance to either theater unless special arrangements are made.

Haggin Auditorium Seating

  • There are four spaces for wheelchairs located in the front row of Haggin auditorium (two on each side of the row). These spaces can be accessed from the elevator hallway on level 1 to the southern/house right side of the auditorium.  Blue symbols on the doors indicate the entrance.
  • Additional seats are available near the side entrance for those who are able to transfer to an auditorium chair or who need immediate access to an exit.
  • The accessible doors in Haggin are accessed from level 1 on the elevator.
  • Haggin Auditorium has a sloped seating area.  This makes the entire room open to those in a wheelchair or with reduced mobility. Please keep in mind that the slope may be steeper that some are comfortable with in a chair.
  • Please note that the Haggin Auditorium main lobby is not wheelchair accessible except via the sloped auditorium.

Carrick Theater Seating

  • There are four spots located along the back wall (two on each side) which have removable chairs to accommodate a wheelchair.  Additional chairs can also be removed with proper notice.
  • Other rows can be accessed via a single shallow step down per row.
  • The main entrance of Carrick is accessible via level 1R on the elevator.

Restrooms

An all gender restroom with urinals is located in the hallway on the house left side of Haggin Auditorium, down the hall from the Morlan Gallery.

Infant and Child Care

A changing station is scheduled to be installed in winter of 2023‑24. We kindly ask that caregivers not change diapers on upholders surfaces or seat.

Sensory Concerns

Due to the nature of theater performance and live events, many shows may contain loud music or bright lights. Please review any special notes under each event listing and follow up by calling or emailing us to ensure an event is suited to your needs.
