Looking Ahead to 250 Years of Transylvania
by Julie Martinez
To help guide preparations for this historic occasion, the university has appointed the Transylvania 250th Observance Steering Committee, a distinguished group of alumni, volunteers and university leaders who will help envision and shape a yearlong celebration worthy of this landmark anniversary.
Rose Mary Dow ’88 will serve as chair of the committee, with Marc Mathews ’80 serving as vice chair. Other members include Glen Bagby ’66, trustee emeritus; Colene Elridge ’05, past chair of the Board of Regents; Catherine Nunn Lawless ’98, regent and past president of the Alumni Board; Kara Covert ’90, vice president for advancement; Julie Martinez, vice president for marketing and communications; Andrew McMichael, executive vice president for academic affairs and dean of the university; and Ashley Reed, chief of staff to the president.
Over the coming years, the committee will develop the vision, priorities and signature themes that will guide the university’s 250th-anniversary observance. Their work will help ensure the celebration honors Transylvania’s rich history while shining a spotlight on the students, faculty, alumni and friends whose contributions continue to define the institution today.
