Transylvania University Clay Target Team

Find your focus with Transylvania Clay Target!
In fall 2024, Transylvania launched a Clay Target (shotgun) team in response to growing popularity and student interest. With the popularity of shotgun sports, Transy wants to provide you a unique opportunity to excel.
The Clay Target team offers a unique opportunity to excel in diverse disciplines, including trap, skeet, sporting clays, and 5-stand, under the prestigious Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and ACUI-Clay Target Program. Practice sessions are held weekly at the state-of-the-art Blue Grass Sportmen’s League shotgun fields and provide a safe and accessible environment for honing skills. Students bring their own 12-gauge shotguns, stored securely at the range, or use team-provided over/under shotguns.
This isn’t just about competition; it’s about a distinctive college experience. You’ll be part of one of the few private college clay target teams in Kentucky, building skills and community in a safe and accessible environment. Transylvania provides a rewarding extracurricular experience, blending skill development, community, and a commitment to safe and accessible participation. Managed by Vice-President for Student Life & Dean of Students, Michael Covert, the team emphasizes safety and affordability through fundraising activities like turkey shoots. “We’re excited about this opportunity given the rise in clay target teams at Kentucky and area high schools,” Covert states.

What is Clay Target?
Clay target shooting is an exciting sport that tests your aim and reflexes. Using an over-under shotgun, you’ll try to break flying clay targets from various stations. The sport includes different disciplines like trap, skeet and sporting clays, each presenting unique target patterns. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced shooter, clay targets offer an engaging challenge. Program is made possible by donors.
