Many of these financial aid resources require the student and family to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to be considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The FAFSA uses a Federal Methodology to calculate a family\u2019s ability to contribute to their student\u2019s college expenses. The Financial Aid Office understands that special circumstances may arise when the Federal Methodology does not accurately reflect a family\u2019s true ability to contribute to the cost of education. Students who believe their circumstances warrant reconsideration of their eligibility should contact the financial aid office to discuss their situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based upon the receipt and review of specific documentation, the Financial Aid Office may exercise Professional Judgment and make adjustments to a student\u2019s financial aid eligibility. Professional Judgment is the ability of the financial aid office to make adjustments to a student\u2019s aid eligibility on a case-by-case basis. The adjustments may be made to the cost of attendance or to a data element required to calculate the student\u2019s expected family contribution (EFC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A special circumstance is typically an unplanned situation which might result in a reduction in parental income or an increase in the family\u2019s uncontrollable expenses.
