The DPS office is located at <strong>439 W. 4th Street<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>For emergencies or non-emergencies<\/strong>, call: <strong>(859) 233-8118<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To text a message or anonymous tip<\/strong>, use: <strong>(859) 351-7343<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sworn peace officers conduct regular patrols by foot, bicycle, golf cart, and vehicle to provide comprehensive campus coverage. The department is staffed by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>10 full-time armed sworn peace officers<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>1 Clery and Title IX Compliance Officer<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>4 part-time armed sworn peace officers<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Safety Escort Services<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Public Safety offers both <strong>virtual<\/strong> and <strong>in-person safety escort services<\/strong> to any student, faculty, or staff member who feels unsafe on or near campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Virtual escorts<\/strong> utilize the university\u2019s network of security cameras to monitor individuals as they travel across campus, providing real-time oversight and support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In-person escorts<\/strong> are available by foot, golf cart, or vehicle and may be requested at any time, day or night. These escorts are provided within approximately one block of campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This service is part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a safe and supportive campus environment for the entire Transylvania community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Community Engagement and Leadership<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>DPS officers not only undergo rigorous law enforcement training but also participate in leadership development programs to ensure they are equipped to serve as role models and effective community partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The department is committed to utilizing a variety of community policing strategies to actively engage with the Transylvania University community, build professional relationships, and foster mutual trust. The system delivers alerts through multiple communication channels, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Text messages to subscribed mobile devices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emailing all university email accounts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Displaying alert on digital signage strategically placed throughout campus<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>T-ALERT is activated only in critical situations that require immediate attention or action from students, faculty, or staff. Examples of such emergencies include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Active shooter incidents or civil disturbances<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fires or fire-related emergencies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hazardous material leaks or spills<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Campus closures or delays due to inclement weather<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tornado warnings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nearby external threats that may endanger the university community<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The primary goal of the T-ALERT system is to enhance campus safety by ensuring timely and effective communication during emergency situations.&nbsp; DPS will work with Resident Life, CERT, and Communications departments to properly utilize these warning systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Campus Safety Infrastructure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Transylvania University\u2019s campus is thoughtfully designed to prioritize the safety and well-being of all community members. Key safety features include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Personal Safety Awareness<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Always be aware of your surroundings, especially at night or in unfamiliar areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid walking alone at night; use campus escort services or walk with friends.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay in well-lit, populated areas and avoid shortcuts through isolated places.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Secure Personal Belongings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lock residence hall doors, windows, and vehicles, even when stepping away briefly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t leave valuables unattended in common areas, the library, or the cafeteria.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a lockable drawer or safe for storing passports, IDs, or other sensitive documents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don\u2019t leave items of value visible in your vehicles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Printed copies are also available at the Department of Public Safety office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Parking and Bicycle Regulations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are permitted to park vehicles on campus provided they display a <strong>valid <\/strong>parking permit issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Parking regulations are designed to promote <strong>vehicle security<\/strong>, <strong>efficient traffic flow<\/strong>, and <strong>safe access to campus facilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All vehicles must be registered with DPS, and parking is permitted only in designated areas. Enforcement of parking regulations helps maintain a safe and orderly campus environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, <strong>bicycle permits<\/strong> are available through DPS at no cost. Registering your bicycle assists in theft prevention and expedite recovery in the event of loss or damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information about parking zones, regulations, or to obtain a permit, please contact DPS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Parking citations may be appealed by contacting Lt. Lamb at <a href=\"mailto:rlamb@transy.edu\">rlamb@transy.edu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.Appeals are reviewed to determine whether an error occurred in the issuance of the citation.
