Definition of a Disability

As outlined in the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), a student with a disability is defined as anyone with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities such as walking, seeing, hearing, speaking or learning, as well as many others.

In addition to those who may have visible disabilities, the definition includes those with a range of non-visible disabilities. These include but are not limited to: psychological issues, learning differences or chronic health impairments such as epilepsy, diabetes, lupus, cancer, HIV/AIDS and more.
