The student must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and disposition to become a teacher candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please review the criteria for program admission below. After teacher candidates are admitted to the program, they must maintain a 2.75 GPA in their education courses and their major courses. Teacher candidates also complete a four-week Practicum in their junior year and a semester-long student teaching experience in their senior year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Review the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.transy.edu\/academics\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/09\/Winter-2020-Student-Teaching-Handbook.pdf\">Student Teaching Handbook<\/a>\u00a0for more information about this important requirement of our program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Criteria for program admission<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Minimum college GPA:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2.75 GPA cumulative<\/li><li>2.75 GPA education courses<\/li><li>2.75 GPA major\/teaching area<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Minimum Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators scores:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Reading: 156<\/li><li>Math:&nbsp;150<\/li><li>Writing: 162<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other assessments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Formal entrance essay with application<\/li><li>Interview with at least two education faculty members<\/li><li>Informal essay at time of admissions interview<\/li><li>Demonstration of&nbsp;critical thinking, communication, creativity, and&nbsp;collaboration&nbsp;skills<\/li><li>Understanding of the disposition needed for the teaching profession<\/li><li>Agreement to abide by the Professional Code of Ethics and knowledge of the character and fitness questionnaire contained in Section III of the TC-1 form (supplied by the program)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Criteria for certification<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon satisfactory completion of all education and general education course requirements, with a minimum 2.75 GPA, candidates must also satisfy the following requirements in order to be recommended to the state of Kentucky for certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transylvania University has not determined whether the Education program curriculum meets the educational requirements for certification or licensure in other states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Pass Student Teaching and receive a passing score on the Student Teacher Portfolio<\/li><li>Pass Practicum and receive a passing score on the Practicum Folder of tasks<\/li><li>Achieve the minimum passing scores on the required PRAXIS exam(s).
