A student may use 100% of their awarded institutional, state &amp; federal aid, loans, and outside scholarships. Students pay for other out-of-pocket expenses such as passport and visa fees, travel to consulates, international airfare, local transportation, meals, independent travel and personal expenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For other program choices, Transylvania will pay an approved study abroad program a maximum of $12,000 of a student\u2019s program fee. Students are responsible to pay their study abroad program for the balance of fees if the cost of their study abroad program exceeds the maximum amount allowed. Once approved to study abroad for a semester, a student may use 50% of their Transylvania aid, plus all federal and state aid, loans, and fees directly to their off-campus program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Summer Abroad: <\/strong>For summer study abroad programs students pay the program fee directly to the program provider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>May Term: <\/strong>Students participating in a May term travel course will pay the program fee directly to Transylvania. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have questions about billing or a payment plan, please contact Transylvania\u2019s billing office at 859-233-8150.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"scholarships\">Scholarships<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"transylvania-scholarships\">Transylvania Scholarships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Scholarships are available for semester, summer and May term abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to any Transylvania study abroad scholarship funds, semester students are approved to use their Transylvania award money for a GlobalTransy program.&nbsp; All Federal and state&nbsp;financial aid along with outside scholarship grants may also be used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/k9oG9rx35Zg7RPvp8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Semester Study Abroad Scholarship Application<\/a> (Fall Deadline: March 15, Winter Deadline: May 15)<br><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/k9oG9rx35Zg7RPvp8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Summer Study Abroad Scholarship Application<\/a>\u00a0(Deadline: January 15)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdGAVTmS2JwdbL8lI0VfXowZX7bVSWVnW2qVZNIoBBWhpxpLQ\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">May Term Scholarship Application<\/a>\u00a0(Deadline: October 18)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cardwell-french-scholarship-for-junior-year\">Cardwell French Scholarship for Junior Year<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A special scholarship is available for a student to study in France or another country where French is the primary language during the junior year. This scholarship is in addition to the approved use of other Transylvania awards, financial aid and loans.&nbsp; Current sophomores are eligible to apply after consulting with the director of global and intercultural engagement and Transylvania\u2019s French program.&nbsp; To apply, students must include a cover letter detailing a plan of study, a two-page analysis in French of an article from&nbsp;<em>Le Monde diplomatique&nbsp;<\/em>(current issues available in the Transylvania library) and complete a semester abroad application.&nbsp; Eligible applicants will be interviewed in French.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"edward-and-doris-coleman-endowed-travel-grant\"><strong>Edward and Doris Coleman Endowed Travel Grant&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Art and Art History Program is pleased to announce that the&nbsp;<em>Edward and Doris Coleman Endowed Travel Grant<\/em>, established by Rose Mary Stamler Dow \u201988, is available to award to students with a declared major in Art or Art History for travel expenses incurred on a Program-sponsored May term course. To be eligible, students must be a junior or senior with a declared major in Art or Art History with a 3.0 GPA or higher in their major, and must also have demonstrated financial need.&nbsp; To apply, students must submit a two-page, double spaced essay to the Art &amp; Art History professor sponsoring the course. The topic will be assigned by the professor and must be relevant to the trip.&nbsp; Students must also submit their resume, Art program GPA, and financial need assessment provided by the Financial Aid Office. The essay and subsequent application materials will be reviewed by two additional faculty members (one in Art and one from outside the Program).&nbsp; Deadline for submission is December 1st. All disciplines; previous study of German language not required, but strongly encouraged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iie.org\/en\/Programs\/Gilman-Scholarship-Program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gilman International Scholarship Program<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp; Awards, based on financial need, for semester study abroad.&nbsp; To be eligible, you must be receiving a Pell Grant.&nbsp; To confirm your eligibility, check with the financial aid office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"summer-scholarships\">Summer Scholarships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clscholarship.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Critical Language Scholarship Program<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/culturalvistas.org\/programs\/abroad\/cultural-vistas-fellowship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cultural Vistas Fellowship<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>&#8211; provides&nbsp; a fully funded 8 week summer internship for 12 -15 U.S. sophomore or junior year students who have not yet had the opportunity to study, intern, or live abroad before. Strong preference will be given to applicants from underrepresented groups. This includes, but is not limited to: Pell Grant recipients; veterans; first-generation college students; STEM majors; members of minority communities within the United States; and non-traditional students. Cultural Vistas recognizes a broad definition of the term \u2018underrepresented.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applicants should be able to demonstrate their interest and commitment to civic engagement and youth involvement, and be passionate about the potential for the international exchange of ideas in this field. They should be open-minded, flexible, and curious about cultures other than their own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One cohort of 4-5 fellows will intern in either Buenos Aires, Berlin, or Bangalore.&nbsp; Students applying for Argentina or Germany must have two years of university-level language study.&nbsp; The fellowship is open to students in all fields and includes a pre-departure orientation, and a post-program seminar in New York City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fulbright.org.uk\/our-programmes\/undergraduate-and-pre-university-programmes\/uk-summer-institutes\/\">Fulbright Summer Institutes<\/a>\u00a0&#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0for sophomores<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fundforeducationabroad.org\/scholarships\/\">Fund for Education Abroad<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iie.org\/en\/Programs\/Gilman-Scholarship-Program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Gilman International Scholarship Program<\/strong><\/a>: Awards, based on financial need, for semester study abroad. To be eligible, you must be receiving a Pell Grant. To confirm your eligibility, check with the financial aid office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fundforeducationabroad.org\/scholarships\/\">Approved Program Scholarships<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp;Check with your study abroad program for scholarship options and eligibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.borenawards.org\/scholarships\/program-basics\/boren-scholarship-basics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Boren Undergraduate Scholarships<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; for 8 week programs in science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) and language study in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe.&nbsp; Previous language study not required, but you must enroll in an intensive language course if given an award.&nbsp; Funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), Boren scholarship recipients are obligated to fulfill a service requirement after graduation.&nbsp; Specifically, recipients must work in the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, State, or the Intelligence Community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.daad.de\/rise\/en\/rise-germany\/about-the-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) in Germany &#8211;<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;Scholarships for undergraduates in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, engineering, or a closely related field. Students are paired with German PhD students. All living costs are paid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"graduate-post-b-a\">Graduate \/ Post B.A.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/us.fulbrightonline.org\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Fulbright Scholarships<\/strong><\/a><strong>:<\/strong>&nbsp; Awards for graduate study, research, or teaching abroad. Round-trip transportation, tuition and maintenance for one year. Approximately 670 awards to over 100 countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhodesscholar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Rhodes Scholarships<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp; Full tuition, fees, and stipend for two years of graduate study at the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ox.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">University of Oxford<\/a>. Scholarships awarded to multi-talented students with proven intellectual and academic achievement of the highest standard. Applicants must have integrity of character, the ability to lead, energy and physical vigor. Candidates must be nominated by Transylvania. A total of 32 American Rhodes Scholars are selected from eight U.S. districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatescambridge.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Gates Cambridge Scholarships<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0 Full time, fees, and stipend for graduate study at the University of Cambridge. Applicants must have an exceptional record and be admitted to the University of Cambridge. Approximately 80 scholarships are awarded to U.S students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marshallscholarship.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">British Marshall Scholarships<\/a>:<\/strong>&nbsp; \u00a319,000 (about $28,500) per year for two years of graduate study at any British university. To qualify, students should have a grade point average of not less than 3.7 and hold a bachelor&#8217;s degree by the time they take up their scholarship. Preference will be given to candidates who combine high academic ability with the capacity to play an active part in the life of a British University. Up to 40 scholarships awarded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Davies-Jackson Scholarships:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Full tuition, fees and stipend for two years of graduate study at the University of Cambridge. The scholarship is designed for students with modest economic backgrounds and who are among the first in their families to have graduated from college.
