{"id":296,"date":"2020-02-24T16:07:40","date_gmt":"2020-02-24T21:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.transy.edu\/academics\/faculty\/mfortner\/"},"modified":"2026-03-16T10:47:25","modified_gmt":"2026-03-16T14:47:25","slug":"mfortner","status":"publish","type":"faculty","link":"https:\/\/www.transy.edu\/academics\/faculty\/mfortner\/","title":{"rendered":"Fortner, Melissa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Psychology professor Melissa Fortner aspires to promote her students&#8217; understanding of humanity, and that begins with an understanding of themselves and their relationship to the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Such understanding requires a cultivation of critical thinking, honest introspection, and communication skills,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fortner cultivated those skills during her own undergraduate days at Transylvania, where she completed a double major in psychology and philosophy.
