Attorney Brian Gardner has the opportunity to reach students with varying interests through his class, Legal Environment of Business. “This class gives those interested in law school a taste of that experience and those interested in business an appreciation for the impact that law has in all areas,” he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gardner encourages students of both disciplines “to learn for themselves and discern for themselves”\u2014skills they will need in the real world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gardner is in touch with that real world. A practicing real estate attorney for 28 years, he has served as president of the Fayette County Bar Association and Lexington Jaycees and on the boards of the High Street YMCA and Mortgage Bankers of the Bluegrass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Life presents a multitude of challenges and opportunities. To be prepared, we must expect the unexpected by having a broad base of knowledge and understanding and the skills to adapt to and confront new issues.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In Legal Environment of Business, Gardner puts that experience into practice and passes on skills that have harbored his own success. Rather than being told<\/em> the information, he hopes students will learn to make their own connections. To Gardner, the most enjoyable aspect of teaching is “watching students progress and apply the information they have learned to analyze an issue and resolve it.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, Gardner’s course provides an opportunity to help students prepare for the multitude of challenges that await them beyond the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
