Teaching Mathematics

To become certified to teach Mathematics, students must complete the Mathematics Major, in addition to the following for certification.

Education Minor for Secondary Certification

Completion of Education Minor for Secondary certification (8-12) for Teaching Mathematics requires:

EDU 2014Schooling in U.S. Culture: History, Philosophies, and Diversity
EDU 2094Standards-Based Instruction 
EDU2164 Learning Theory and Pedagogy 
EDU3054Instructional Strategies and Content Area Literacy for Learners in Middle and Secondary Schools
EDU3244Practicum in Learning Experiences
EDU4114Supervised Teaching in High School
EDU4514Senior Seminar (EDU)
or Senior Seminar in the student’s discipline
Students must also take the following allied course: 
PSY1004General Psychology
* To become certified to teach mathematics, students must take MATH 3134 as one of their two math electives in the major.
