1.A Develop and implement overall public health policies and procedures for the campus for 2020-21 consistent with federal and state public health mandates and criteria. complete Implemented Healthy at Transy protocols including testing, daily check-ins via app, and overall approach of individual empowerment along with individual and collective responsibility.
1.B Develop and implement a modular academic calendar for 2020-21. complete Implemented modular calendar; returning to semesters for 2021-22 academic year.
1.C Develop and implement residential housing and student engagement activities for 2020-21 consistent with federal and state public health mandates and criteria. complete

Reopened campus housing at normal occupancy using strict public health protocols including:  

  • Suspension of the campus live-on requirement.
  • Isolation/quarantine spaces available.
  • Removal of common area and lounge furniture and closure of community restrooms.
  • Signage in all residence hall lobbies, common areas with COVID-19 information.
  • Phased move-in to allow for physical distancing.
  • A full schedule of virtual and small group events which provided opportunities for engagement.
1.D Develop and implement athletic activities for 2020-21 consistent with federal and state public health mandates and criteria. complete

Implemented a Transylvania Athletics COVID-19 Plan with guidelines consistent with NCAA, CDC and local health departments for student-athletes to be able to practice and compete.

1.E Launch and celebrate utilization of the new William T. Young Campus Center as a hub for activities of Transylvania University and a magnet for our host community of central Kentucky (consistent with federal and state public health mandates and criteria). complete Opened campus center in August 2020. Dedication events postponed until October 2021 due to public health guidelines on in-person gatherings.
1.F Enhance capacities, innovation and expertise in delivering and supporting remote and digital learning. complete

Enhanced the online learning environment with multiple initiatives. 

  • Implemented Canvas.
  • Purchased ZOOM licenses.
  • DLA implemented iPad pilot program.
  • Purchased remote instructional equipment for faculty and staff.
  • Secured $45K in grant funding to support digital learning.
