Transylvania University has a strong commitment to supporting talented high school students who participate in the Governor’s Scholars Program<\/a>, Governor’s School for the Arts<\/a> and Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alumni of these statewide summer programs have until Dec. 1 to apply for guaranteed scholarships<\/a> that will pay a minimum of around half the cost of tuition at Transylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They have a history of being very successful students,” said Johnnie Johnson, interim vice president of enrollment. “We’re the type of institution where they can be successful and thrive.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The youths also have already spent several weeks on college\ncampuses through these organizations, which will help them transition to\nuniversity life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Transylvania community has first-hand experience with these programs, having hosted the Governor’s School for the Arts and Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs. In fact, Transylvania hosted the GSA for 14 years as students were immersed in an intensive schedule of classes, workshops and field trips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students who participate in one of the programs and receive a scholarship don’t have to choose any particular major. A GSA alum who plays violin and majors in exercise science, for instance, can still grow as a musician with access to music labs and practice rooms at Transylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These scholarships are renewable each year and can combine with other Transy awards like Fine Arts or Legacy, as well as with other federal and state programs, subject to a student’s eligibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
