Transylvania student Alexander Drury recently attended a White House event and signing of an executive order relating to transparency, accountability and free speech on college campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first-year political science and history major was chosen along with around 80 other students from across the country to attend the March 21 event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drury was honored to be invited to the White House. “I’m a huge history guy. I was walking into different rooms and thinking of all the important decisions and discussions that have happened in this same place. It was kind of breathtaking, just being able to walk in there and just standing there and looking at everything and taking it all in,” he shared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was in the East Room where the students gathered to watch President Trump give a brief speech and sign the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drury, who is chairman of the Transylvania University Young Americans for Freedom, also enjoyed meeting other students who share similar goals and experiences on college campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Leadership Institute chose the students to attend the ceremony; Drury hopes to intern at the nonprofit group over the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Transy, he plans to attend law school and then work somehow with the public policy process or court system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
