We\ntalk a lot about the critical thinking and problem-solving abilities of Transy\ngrads, but Jason Hobson \u201997 now has \u201csolution\u201d in his job title: Cloud Solution\nArchitect – SAP on Azure at Microsoft. He helps large corporations migrate their IT\ninfrastructure to Microsoft\u2019s Cloud, known as Azure. In guiding these mammoth\ntransitions, Hobson finds himself tapping into the foundation he built at\nTransy and the internship at IBM that he secured with the help of his professor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy\ninternship in my junior year became a fulltime job at IBM and set the direction\nfor my whole career,\u201d Hobson explains. The expertise he developed in SAP, \u201can\nenterprise resource planning package that big companies use to do everything\nfrom human resources to purchase orders,\u201d began in his work at the IBM help\ndesk supporting the application. It grew through 18 years of consulting for\nProcter & Gamble and now flourishes as part of a multinational team in Microsoft\u2019s\nCustomer Success Unit that works with global corporations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hobson, who grew up in Pikeville in Eastern Kentucky, lives in Portland, Oregon. He says his ability to succeed is the result of a combination of skills and experiences he gained at Transy. \u201cThe best skill I developed was troubleshooting and being able to take a problem and break it apart,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe\ncomputer science program really helped me understand technology and get better\nat diagnosing problems and seeing the big picture,\u201d he notes. But it\u2019s the\ncontext of the liberal arts and the ability to communicate that have been equal\npartners.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think the liberal arts married with the technology side is the foundation I come back to… It\u2019s my ability to meet a new customer and not only talk about the technology, but to listen and communicate clearly.<\/p>Jason Hobson<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe liberal arts background has been\nabsolutely critical to the modicum of success I\u2019ve had in my industry,\u201d Hobson says.\n\u201cI think my time\nat Transy was not only pivotal from a computer science element, but from the\nbreadth of classes I had outside of Brown Science Center. Transy helped broaden\nmy perspective.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hobson\nremembers how Transy\u2019s professors taught him the essential soft skills for\nsuccess along with the hard. \u201cI go back to that first class with Don Dugi. It\nwas that moment that just sticks with me,\u201d he says, recalling the challenge \u201cto\nthink beyond my narrow view of the world to this larger spectrum of not only\npeople but ways of thinking and ways of looking at things.\u201d He laughs as he\ndescribes how it \u201cjust kind of cracked my little mind open.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hobson\ninvites students who are contemplating college to consider Transy for the\nquality of education it offers and how it \u201cincludes social education\u2014how to\ninteract with people and how to think outside of your box.\u201d At Transy you do\nthis \u201cin an environment that cares about you, that wants you to succeed and sets\nyou up to succeed.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His\ncareer illustrates his claim. From his graduation during the dot-com explosion\nof the late \u201890s through the mass migration of data centers to the cloud,\nHobson has been able to grow and thrive no matter the transformation in his\nfield. \u201cTransy,\u201d he concludes, \u201chas been monumental in building the foundation\nI\u2019ve used throughout the years as Information Technology has rapidly evolved.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
