Growing the Kentucky Book Fair into a week-long literary festival was the goal of the Kentucky Humanities Council in 2018. On Thursday, Nov. 15, Transylvania hosted a new festival event,\u00a0Cocktails and Conversation<\/a>, which welcomed a national-level author to Lexington. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beck Dorey-Stein is the author of \u201cFrom the Corner of the Oval,\u201d a memoir looking back at her time as a White House stenographer. At the event, KET\u2019s Renee Shaw led a\u00a0conversation with Dorey-Stein about her tenure in the White House and life in Washington, D.C.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival continues through the weekend with the 37th annual Kentucky Book Fair, which gives readers the opportunity to meet their favorite authors face to face.\u00a0 Three authors with Transy ties will be participating. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeremy Paden, a Spanish professor and poet, will be on site with two collections, including his newest book of poetry “Prison Recipes.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Richard Taylor, who is Transy\u2019s Kenan Visiting Writer and a former Kentucky poet laureate, is participating. Taylor\u2019s new book, \u201cElkhorn: Evolution of a Kentucky Landscape,\u201d\u00a0received this year\u2019s Thomas D. Clark Medallion<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bianca Spriggs \u201903, a writer, multidisciplinary artist and assistant professor of English at Ohio University, is also attending. Spriggs and Paden co-edited \u201cBlack Bone: 25 Years of Affrilachian Poets,\u201d which was reprinted by the University Press of Kentucky earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
