Transylvania University\u2019s two choirs will perform a variety\nof works from around the globe during their first concert of the season on\nSunday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The public is encouraged to attend this free Transylvania\nChoirs Concert at 3 p.m. in Carrick\nTheater<\/a>. No tickets are required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will be the first performance under the leadership of Regan MacNay, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities. \u201cThis is a chance to see the new direction of the choral program,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During Sunday\u2019s show, each choir will open with an a\ncappella piece that considers the role of music and its significance to\nhumanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Transylvania University Choir, a male and female ensemble, will sing P\u00e4rt Uusberg\u2019s 2003 \u201cMuusika.\u201d The piece is based on an Estonian poem, which translated into English says, \u201cSomewhere the original harmony must exist, hidden somewhere in the vast wilds. \u2026 Because how else could it have formed in human hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Transylvania Singers women\u2019s treble group will perform\n\u201cMusica\u201d by Renaissance composer Jacob Arcadelt. Written in medieval Latin,\nthis sacred piece describes the powerful effects of music\u2014from calming angry\nsouls to even moving trees and wild beasts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each choir will then perform works that explore various\nfacets of music\u2014from the precise styles of the Baroque and Classical eras to\nthe joy found in gospel music and the rhythmic language of Latin American and\nSouth African pieces. \u201cBecause of the variety of music, there will be something\nthat appeals to everyone in the audience,\u201d MacNay said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
