Transylvania University\u2019s Crimson Christmas will bring the joy of the holidays to 50 children in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass this December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 27th annual event\u2014which will include a visit by Santa Claus, gifts, stockings and more\u2014is rooted in a tradition and culture of community outreach and giving at Transy. This year’s event is scheduled for Dec. 1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fundraising events are already underway around campus in and the community.  Last week, Dine to Donate at Doodles restaurant raised money for the event. Another opportunity to contribute will be during a Dine to Donate event at Third Street Stuff & Coffee on Sunday, Nov. 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. A percentage of proceeds will go toward Crimson Christmas if you mention the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crimson Christmas has grown exponentially over the years,\nand it is a favorite of many faculty, staff and students. For instance, each\nyear student resident advisers volunteer to wrap gifts, transform the Campus\nCenter Gym into a winter wonderland and serve as buddies for the children who\nparticipate in the carnival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCrimson Christmas is a day guaranteed to bring a smile to\nyour face,\u201d said Ashley Hill, director of student wellbeing and a longtime\nparticipant. \u201cThe excitement of the children when Santa appears is my favorite\npart of the day, and I love the positive energy radiating from every person who\nattends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the Transylvania community, the public can participate in Crimson Christmas through monetary or in-kind donations, such as light snacks, drinks, etc. Money raised will buy gifts and stockings for the children. \u201cThe entire Transy\ncommunity comes together in a beautiful way to spread holiday magic, and this\nevent restores my faith in humanity every year,” Hill said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
