LEXINGTON, Ky.\u2014Professor Marcie Lenk\u2014who is academic director\nof Bat Kol: Christian Institute for Jewish Studies in Jerusalem, Israel\u2014will\ngive this year\u2019s Moosnick Lecture at Transylvania University on Wednesday, Oct.\n24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her talk titled \u201cTruth and Faith: Can Jews and Christians\nReally Open Ourselves to the Truth of the Other?\u201d will be free and open to the\npublic at 7 p.m. in Carrick Theater. It continues the annual Moosnick\nLectureship in Judaic Studies\u2019 tradition of fostering interreligious discourse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is part of Transylvania’s Creative Intelligence\nSeries and New Frontiers<\/a>\nseason, which focuses on the university\u2019s yearlong campus theme of civility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn a time of intense polarization in both our country and\nour world, this year\u2019s Moosnick lecturer models the importance of an\nintelligent and conciliatory voice to better understand Jewish-Christian\nrelations,\u201d said Paul Jones, a Transylvania Professor of Religion. \u201cBecause her\nsensitivity to, and her appreciation of, the religious other are grounded in\ntexts and contexts, Dr. Lenk will help us identify and examine both the\nopportunities and limitations of our shared conversations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For most of history, many Jews and Christians have rejected\nthe possibility that we have anything to learn from each other’s faith and\nreligion. This talk will examine the history of this rejection as well as\nrecent changes of attitudes among both Christian and Jewish religious leaders,\nand it will consider the opportunities and limitations of interfaith dialogue\nand understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lenk has devoted her intellectual life and career to\norganizing educational programs and teaching Jews and Christians\u2014and people of\nother faiths\u2014to understand and appreciate the basic texts, ideas, history and\nfaith of the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lenk, who has taught at Jewish and Christian seminaries in\nIsrael and the United States, contributes to publications such as the Jewish\nAnnotated New Testament. She earned her Ph.D. and a Master of Theological\nStudies at Harvard University, and an M.A. from Yeshiva University in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also part of the Moosnick Lectureship, Lenk will give a talk\ntitled \u201cWho are the Children of Sarah?
