Transylvania University Athletics capped off an extraordinary school year with the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner\u2019s Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the fourth time the HCAC has recognized the Pioneers for having the strongest athletics program in the conference<\/a> \u2014 the last was 2023-24. Nine Transy teams, along with individual athletes, punched tickets to NCAA postseason competition during fall and winter terms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We enjoyed an extraordinary year marked by championships, record-setting performances, prestigious awards and academic achievement,” said Jeff Chaney, vice president for athletics and athletic director. “I believe these accolades reflect the hard work and commitment that define our coaches and student-athletes. I am so happy for all of them and their achievements.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The breadth of the Pioneers’ success was evident across the HCAC as they claimed numerous titles. Men\u2019s soccer, men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball and men\u2019s and women\u2019s lacrosse each swept their regular-season and postseason crowns. Volleyball and women\u2019s tennis captured regular-season titles, while men\u2019s and women\u2019s golf claimed tournament championships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

These HCAC tournament champs and\u00a0the softball team advanced to NCAA play, joined by individual qualifiers Ella Detjen (cross country) and Olivia Sparks (track and field).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s standout athletes were also recognized with individual honors. In men\u2019s soccer, Dylan Barnes earned accolades including United Soccer Coaches All-America Third Team honors and a first-team All-Region recognition. Jackson Holt, Gus Dickman and Ethan Gudorf also received All-Region nods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, baseball Pioneer Drew Bowles earned D3Baseball.com and ABCA Region Pitcher of the Year honors along with first-team All-Region selections from both organizations. Ethan Dillon joined him on All-Region teams. At the end of the season, recent grad Luke Patton signed with the Lexington Legends<\/a> \u2014 a professional baseball team that shares a home field with the Pioneers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Track and field produced multiple individual conference champions. Detjen swept the indoor and outdoor 5,000 meters plus the outdoor 10,000 meters and earned USTFCCCA All-Region and Conference Newcomer of the Year honors. Sparks collected conference titles in the 200 meters, outdoor and indoor, and 4×400 relay \u2014 and she was named conference Player of the Year and earned All-Region and All-American USTFCCCA recognitions. Jatajza Pinkney also won conference titles in the 400-meter hurdles and 4×400 relay along with Peyton Tan and Hannah Cox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the pool, swimmer Kole Brannock captured individual conference titles in the 100 butterfly and backstroke and 200 backstroke and earned All-Conference honors. Additional swimming honors included Riley Shaw winning Conference Newcomer of the Year and other awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transylvania, which earned a total of 13 HCAC Player of the Year honors, celebrated these and other top student-athletes last month at the annual RAFYs awards banquet for their athletic and academic achievements, leadership and community impact. Highlights included men’s soccer being named Team of the Year, Bowles and Sparks winning Athlete of the Year honors and Brian Lane receiving Coach of the Year for both golf and basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As always, academic excellence was a hallmark of Pioneer athletics this year. Dozens of student-athletes earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District or Academic All-Conference honors. A large group was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honor society for student-athletes maintaining at least a 3.4 cumulative GPA. Teams also received national academic team awards for their collective GPAs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2025-26 season underscored Transylvania\u2019s emphasis on developing student-athletes who excel in competition, the classroom and community. Check out the full details<\/a> of this school year\u2019s individual and team honors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
