Transylvania University invites the public to do some holiday shopping while supporting campus entrepreneurs at Friday’s third annual Makers Market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the school community are selling their arts, crafts and other creations from noon to 5 p.m. in the Campus Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are excited to once again host the Makers Market featuring a record number of student, faculty and staff small businesses,” said Kaelyn Query Caldwell, acting director of the Center for Entrepreneurship<\/a>. “We have over 40 ‘shops’ registered with a wide assortment of items. This is a great opportunity to support local makers and the Transy community \u2014 and take care of all your holiday shopping in one trip.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Items for sale this year range from jewelry to paintings to wood carvings to crocheted pillows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Center for Entrepreneurship, housed in the newly renovated Sanders-Siebers Entrepreneurship Hub<\/a>, is presenting the market in partnership with Transylvania\u2019s Morlan Gallery<\/a>. The event provides students of any major with lessons in business, as well as extra money for the holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nicole Herman \u201925 will have been a vendor at all three Makers Markets after Friday. The exercise science major from Lexington is branching out this year with a new product: She and her fianc\u00e9 collaborated to make custom, tufted rugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Herman, who previously sold miniature paintings on magnets, pointed out how networking is another benefit of being a vendor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Getting your name and artwork out there matters \u2014 you never know who might end up working with you in the future,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
