Transylvania University is a founding member of a coalition that launched today aimed at preventing college students from drinking while underage and driving while impaired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kentucky Coalition for Responsible Alcohol and Substance Misuse Education program will provide Transylvania and 10 other schools with year-round training and technical assistance, data-driven strategies and funding for harm reduction plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The three-year, $1 million pilot program is modeled after successful, established versions in other states and will work with participating schools to implement a holistic well-being initiative centered on education and harm reduction strategies while providing support to ensure consistency and accountability,” according to the group, which is partnering with the Kentucky Distillers\u2019 Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program will complement other efforts to ensure the safety of students at Transylvania, which was recognized earlier this year<\/a> for its successful online prevention efforts promoting safety and well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Housed at the UK Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, the program was a team effort and will tie Transylvania staff into a network of other professionals across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Throughout the coalition\u2019s initial development, member schools worked together to provide an understanding of the needs unique to each campus based on geographical location, student population and available budget,” the group said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other founding coalition members are: Bellarmine University, Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Centre College, Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky State University, Northern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, University of Kentucky and University of Louisville.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
