Longtime admissions professional V. Peter Pitts is a champion of small colleges \u2014 and he’s partial to Transylvania University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pitts is featuring the school in his upcoming book “Cool Stuff at Small Colleges,” and Transy landed among last summer’s release of his “333 Awesome Small Colleges: (that just might save you money!)<\/a>.” Having attended and worked for colleges that “change lives in a very special way,” he wanted to spotlight those he felt deserve more attention. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pitts said there’s something special about small, private schools. “333 Awesome Small Colleges” specifically highlights benefits of attending Transylvania, including the quality of scholarships (like the Fine Arts awards<\/a> available even for nonmajors). The book also touts the variety of minors and major tracks that caught his eye \u2014 from medical humanities to hospitality and tourism to ecology, evolution and behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, “333 Best Colleges” considers the value and return on investment of a Transylvania education. “These are colleges, Transy included, that are excellent but also very affordable at all income ranges,” Pitts said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transylvania\u2019s tuition and fees are below the national average<\/a> for private liberal arts colleges, and the cost is even lower considering 99% of students receive scholarships or grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school is also unique among liberal arts colleges because it\u2019s in a thriving city that offers plenty of chances to build a successful future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Students should consider Transy because of the many opportunities they get throughout their four years,” Pitts said. “Due to the internships, travel, research and the many leadership and participation opportunities, their resumes prepare them well for the world of work.
