Next month, Transylvania University will once again shine in the national DIII spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school, as it did in 2019, is hosting the NCAA men’s golf championship at Keene Trace Golf Club \u2014 a tournament that comes on the heels of the Pioneers winning<\/a> the women’s basketball national championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transylvania is looking for volunteers to work the May 14-19 event at the home of the PGA’s Barbasol Championship in nearby Nicholasville. They are needed for a variety of jobs, from shuttle drivers to spotters to hospitality runners. Sign up<\/a> to pitch in, and get perks like Transy gear and a chance for free rounds at the golf course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The number of volunteers that we had in 2019 made it a first-class event, and hopefully everyone is excited about putting on an even better championship in May,” head coach Brian Lane said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Monday, his team is playing in the Shoals Intercollegiate in Alabama, where excitement for next month’s tournament is in the air. “Keene Trace Golf Club has been exceptional to work with, and even today in our tournament in Alabama, coaches were talking about what a great championship site it is,” Lane said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This past October, Transylvania hosted a tournament preview<\/a> at the site for 17 of the nation\u2019s top Division III programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This kind of exposure and leadership helps get the word out about the Transylvania golf team, which soon will vie for its 14th conference championship in the past 15 years (more than any other NCAA men\u2019s golf program during that time). “The feedback that we received from other coaches and student athletes across the country was amazing, and I was not surprised that so many of them wanted us to put in another bid to host,” Lane said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Hosting the national championship in 2019 was exciting for Transylvania and our golf program,” he added. “As an athletic staff, we tried to do everything first class and make it an elite event.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
