David Wallace-Wells, author of the New York Times bestseller \u201cThe Uninhabitable Earth,\u201d will give a lecture at Transylvania University on Feb. 16 in Haggin Auditorium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 7 p.m. event is free and open to the public. Register to attend in person or watch the livestream<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If your anxiety about global warming is dominated by fears of sea-level rise, you are barely scratching the surface of what terrors are possible \u2014 food shortages, refugee emergencies, climate wars and economic devastation,” according to publisher Penguin Random House<\/a>. “‘The Uninhabitable Earth’ is both a travelogue of the near future and a meditation on how that future will look to those living through it \u2014 the ways that warming promises to transform global politics, the meaning of technology and nature in the modern world, the sustainability of capitalism and the trajectory of human progress.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wallace-Wells’ book has been described as “epoch-defining” by The Guardian and this generation\u2019s “Silent Spring” by The Washington Post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also is a columnist and deputy editor at New York magazine \u2014 and he’s served as a national fellow at the New America Foundation and deputy editor of The Paris Review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is part of Transylvania’s Creative Intelligence series<\/a> in collaboration with professor Zo\u00e9 Strecker\u2019s Bingham-Young Professorship project, \u201cCrucial Terrain<\/a>,\u201d and the Hazelrigg-Humanities Endowment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
