LEXINGTON, Ky.\u2014Richard Valentine, Transylvania University\u2019s vice president for alumni and development since 2004, has been named the 25th president of Culver-Stockton College, effective July 1. Founded in 1853, Culver-Stockton College is a four-year liberal arts institution located in Canton, Mo.<\/p>\n
“I am honored to have been chosen to lead Culver-Stockton, my alma mater,\u201d said Valentine. \u201cThe college aspires to excellence and has the momentum to become a truly great liberal arts college that serves its students and its region with distinction.\u201d<\/p>\n
While at Transylvania, Valentine directed programs that increased the alumni giving percentage and set a total giving record. The university is closing out a five-year $32 million capital campaign. <\/p>\n
\u201cRichard Valentine has given exceptional leadership to our alumni and development program,\u201d said Transylvania President Charles L. Shearer. \u201cHe is a highly valued member of the senior administrative staff, and I will miss his wisdom and experience. Culver-Stockton made an excellent choice in the selection of its next president.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTransylvania has been a wonderful place for me to serve as vice president for alumni and development,\u201d said Valentine. \u201cThe character of the University and the quality of its people\u2014students, faculty, staff, alumni, board members and friends\u2014have made every day productive and enjoyable. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have learned much from the opportunity to work with President Charles Shearer. I will tremendously miss him and all the great people I have come to know these past five years,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Valentine, a 1970 graduate of Culver-Stockton College, served the college as a member of its Board of Trustees and former dean of admission. <\/p>\n
Before coming to Transylvania, Valentine served as vice president for admission (1993-95) and then vice president for external relations for nine years at Monmouth College, Monmouth, Ill.\u00a0 Valentine was also dean of admission and financial aid for then-Arkansas College, now known as Lyon College, in Batesville, Ark. \u00a0<\/p>\n
At Culver-Stockton, Valentine replaces William L. Fox who has accepted the presidency of St. Lawrence University (Canton, N.Y.), his alma mater. <\/p>\n
