\"OurLEXINGTON, Ky.\u2014Transylvania\u2019s Morlan Gallery presents \u201cOur Eclectic Minds: Transylvania University Senior Exhibition 2010.\u201d The exhibit opens at 5 p.m. on April 2 and runs through April 23. Regular gallery hours are noon-5 p.m. weekdays, and the gallery will be open for the Lexington Gallery Hop Friday, April 16, from 5-8 p.m. An opening reception for the artists will be Friday, April 2, from 5-8 p.m.<\/strong> The work of nine graduating art majors will be showcased in the exhibit. <\/p>\n

Kristy Marie Allison<\/strong>
\nKristy Marie Allison, Mount Olivet, Ky., is a member and previous philanthropy chair of Alpha Omicron Pi and is the leader of PB&J Club, a volunteer effort provides food for the homeless each week. Allison plans to attend graduate school for a master\u2019s in architecture with an emphasis in historic preservation.\u00a0 For \u201cOur Eclectic Minds,\u201d she will be exhibiting artwork she has created through her years at Transylvania. <\/p>\n

Denise Estelle Brown <\/strong>
\nDenise Estelle Brown is a painter, poet, writer and stage performer from Harlan County, Ky. She has done portrait work as a freelance artist and has exhibited at Transylvania University’s Morlan Gallery. One of her oil paintings was recently purchased by Lexington\u2019s Joseph’s Hospital, for its new women’s hospital. Her art work can also be seen in an outdoor exhibit as part of the downtown revitalization project that includes the historic Lyric Theatre. Brown hosts a monthly poetry reading called \u201c22 Nights\u201d at Third Street Stuff Coffee Shop in Lexington. She is the mother of five lovely children and still considers herself a “mountain girl.”<\/p>\n

Kathleen Burke<\/strong>
\nKathleen Burke was born in Okinawa, Japan, and currently lives between Lexington, Ky., and Vista, Calif. Her work has recently been on display at the Shearer Student Gallery, the Kentucky Department of Higher Education, the Lexington Downtown Arts Center and the Morlan Gallery.<\/p>\n

Hannah Jane Goodman<\/strong>
\nWhile attending Transy, Hannah Jane Goodman had the opportunity to work as an intern at \u201cBlood-Horse Magazine\u201d under Photography Director Anne Eberhardt Keogh. During this time, Goodman had several of her photographs published in the magazine as well as on the Web site. In October 2009, she traveled to Africa to explore her interest in wildlife photography. Two of her framed photographs from that trip were offered as auction items at the Art in Bloom silent auction, the University of Kentucky Art Museum\u2019s premier fund-raiser. Along with travel, wildlife and photography, one of Hannah\u2019s great passions is music. She is interested in the common thread that unites artists she grew up listening to\u2014The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton and others that have produced songs about women. This interest inspired a photography project exploring who these women and capturing their characters through photographs. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Susan MacDonell<\/strong>
\nSusan MacDonell has been in one solo exhibition, \u201cScotland, Paisley and Wee Dancing Hippos\u201d (2009), and several collaborative exhibitions, including Transylvania University Juried Student Exhibitions in 2007 and 2008. She studied in Scotland at The Glasgow School of Art in the fall of 2009.<\/p>\n

Samantha McQuillan<\/strong>
\nSamantha McQuillan grew up in Corbin, Ky., and has been producing art for as long as she can remember. Her sole passion is drawing and her focus is realism.\u00a0 McQuillan has won several awards and commissions her work in Lexington. Her art has been featured in local businesses including Haute Couture in Nicholasville and Blue Moon Tattoo in Williamsburg, Ky. <\/p>\n

Ashley Perkins<\/strong>
\nSince 2003, Ashley Perkins, of Covington, Ky., has been a member of the DeviantArt.com community, and has contributed to the site\u2019s photography collection. \u201cOur Eclectic Minds\u201d will be her first public showing of works, and will feature a small portion of her series of child photography, a current focus for the artist. Currently working as a child care worker while attending school, she hopes to continue with a career in art therapy, focused on working with children and young adults. <\/p>\n

Montgomery Powers<\/strong>
\nMontgomery Powers\u2019 work, a combination of painting and sculptural ceramic forms, was featured in Transylvania\u2019s Juried Student Art Show in 2008, with several works residing in Transylvania\u2019s library and with individual patrons in the Lexington area. He is an administrator and contributor to the social arts and awareness organization Rogue\u2019s Gallery. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Ted Strohmeier<\/strong>
\nIn Ted Strohmeier\u2019s four years at Transylvania, he has exhibited his drawings and photographs in annual juried student exhibits and his work has been published in the \u201cTransylvanian,\u201d the oldest arts and literature journal west of the Allegheny Mountains.\u00a0 Strohmeier plans to teach English and photography in Germany, and then attend graduate school for photography.<\/p>\n
