LEXINGTON, Ky.\u2014In celebration of the National Day of Writing, Transylvania University will host a poetry reading, \u201cWriting the Landscape\u201d at the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning on Thursday, October 20, at 6 p.m. The reading, which is free and open to the public, features authors Carrie Green, George Ella Lyon, Bianca Spriggs \u201903, Richard Taylor, and Lisa Williams.<\/p>\n

Green is the author of \u201cIt\u2019s Not My Birthday, That\u2019s Not My Cake.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lyon is the author of numerous books for children and adults including several collections of poetry such as \u201cCatalpa,\u201d \u201cWhere I\u2019m From, Where Poems Come From\u201d and \u201cChoices: Stories for Adult New Readers.\u201d <\/p>\n

Spriggs, an Affrilachian poet and Cave Canem Fellow, graduated from Transylvania in 2003 and is the author of \u201cKaffir Lily\u201d and \u201cHow Swallowtails Become Dragons.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor is a former poet laureate of Kentucky and the current Kenan Visiting Writer at Transylvania. He is the author of \u201cSue Mundy: A Novel of the Civil War in Kentucky,\u201d \u201cRail Splitter,\u201d \u201cStone Eye\u201d and \u201cGirty.\u201d <\/p>\n

Williams is associate professor of English at Centre College and the author of \u201cWoman Reading to the Sea\u201d and \u201cThe Hammered Dulcimer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lecture is sponsored by the Carnegie Center, the Transylvania Writing Center, and Transy\/Sustainability. A book signing and reception will follow the reading.
