The Transylvania University Morlan Gallery’s senior art exhibit “Augmented Circumstance” opens today, highlighting how students have faced changes in their education, creative practices and daily lives during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Running through May 21, the show features works by Emily Cecil, Bailey Guess, Zach Hall, Peyton Netherton and B Perry. Transylvania students, faculty and staff are invited to visit the gallery in person, and off-campus, general public guests are encouraged to take advantage of the online gallery<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The public also is invited to tune in for an online artists’ talk<\/a> May 10 at 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morlan Gallery<\/a> describes an “augmented circumstance” as one that “occurs when something is changed or different than what is usually expected. These modifications come in many forms, such as perspective, process, material, treatment or approach. While the changes can be exciting and for the better, they can also be challenging, as they disrupt what we understand as normal from past experience or points of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“On one hand, both art and exhibition are born from the highly unusual and unprecedented situations of the last year. On the other hand, both are a response to the current moment, and in that way these artists are doing what artists have always done: They are responding to their circumstances to create new ways of questioning and giving us a new way to look at and understand the world.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
