Transylvania University, which recently made Washington Monthly’s Best Colleges for Student Voting Honor Roll, is participating a program where students encourage each other to head to the polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the virtual, nonpartisan Campus Canvass initiative, Transylvania students will be trained to work with their classmates to make sure they’re registered, that they know about things like the absentee ballot process, and then actually vote on Nov. 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is a volunteer-driven initiative that will ensure every student who can vote, does vote,” said Tevin Monroe, assistant director of campus and community engagement. “The Transylvania community has a strong commitment to civic engagement, which is evident through our commitment to student voting.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students should register here<\/a> if they’d like to take part in Campus Canvass. These volunteers will reach out to a list of their peers \u2014 via social media, for instance \u2014 to provide support throughout the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Campus Canvass will expand Transylvania’s already strong voter engagement, which helped the school earn not only a spot on Washington Monthly’s voting honor roll, but also ninth place among the country’s liberal art colleges<\/a> in the publication’s community service rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Monthly considered data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement, which in a report last year<\/a> showed that Transylvania students are increasingly registering to vote, and then following through at the polls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
