Transylvania University is hosting its ninth annual Liberal Arts + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. in the library.

The school is once again partnering with the Faulkner Morgan Archive to update pages showcasing LGBTQIA+ Kentuckians. Resources will be provided to help participants edit pages individually or collaboratively. The public is welcome, and doughnuts, cheese sticks and coffee will be provided.

“The event offers students a hands-on opportunity to write history using archival documents from the local Lexington and larger Kentucky communities,” according to event organizers. “Something unique about this year is that it’s Wikipedia’s 25th anniversary, and so there has been a lot written about the significance of the platform as a long-running, open-access space for the sharing of knowledge.”

As in previous years, Transylvania is partnering with alumnus Josh Porter ’19 with the Faulkner Morgan Archive.

Also, organizers Kerri Hauman and Emily Goodman have recently spotlighted the annual edit-a-thon. The professors presented at the Feminisms and Rhetorics Conference and SECAC Annual Conference, and they published an article “WikiHope: Teaching Feminist Historiography through the (Re)Writing of Queer Narratives from Kentucky on Wikipedia” in the Peitho journal this past winter.
