A Transylvania University May term class is stepping up to the plate Thursday as they take over operations at Lexington’s professional baseball stadium.
Students taking Sports Facilities and Event Management with business administration professor Marion Hambrick ’95 are getting real-world experience such as managing ticket sales, securing sponsorships, marketing and filling key roles on game day. The minor league Lexington Legends take on the High Point (North Carolina) Rockers beginning at 6:45 p.m.
Tickets for Transy Night at Legends Field have been discounted to $5 for the school community including alumni. See Tnotes for the ticket link, otherwise reserve them here — and find out what you should “Know Before You Go” out to the ballpark.
“We welcome the entire Transy community — students, staff, faculty, alumni and partners — to Legends Field on Thursday night as we celebrate the end of another great academic year,” Hambrick said.

Highlights of the event include professor Brian Gardner throwing out the first pitch and President Brien Lewis leading the seventh-inning stretch. Additionally, professor Julia Poynter and Transylvania’s Facilities staff will be recognized for their contributions to the campus community, and men’s soccer Pioneer Maxwell Deckop will sing the national anthem.
“Partnering with the Lexington Legends to host Transy Night has been an incredible opportunity,” Hambrick said. “The students have gained tremendous first-hand experience as they have learned more about ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, marketing and game day operations.”
Transylvania and the Legends already have deep ties because the Pioneers use the stadium as their home field — and both are looking to further collaborate through community and educational initiatives.
Legends General Manager Justin Ferrarella praised the class for their work. “The energy and professionalism these students have shown in such a short turnaround is impressive,” he said. “We’re proud to provide this opportunity and even more excited about the direction our growing partnership with Transylvania University is headed, both academically and athletically.”
