TRANSYLVANIA: students may apply to use up to $4,500 of their institutional award money for a semester of study abroad. In addition, students may use ALL state and federal financial aid for study abroad. Designated scholarships are available for summer study abroad. Applications
Beyond Transylvania, the following programs offer competitive scholarships that require separate applications:
Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad Scholarships: for semester programs in Australia, England, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Scotland, Spain, and Wales.
Foundation for Global Scholars: for semester programs in Asia, Australia and New Zealand
AustraLearn Scholarships: for semester study in Australia and New Zealand
Bridging Scholarships For Study Abroad in Japan: for semester or year-long study abroad programs in Japan. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.
Butler University Institute for Study Abroad Scholarships: for semester programs in Argentina, Australia, Chile, Costa Rica, England, Mexico, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, and Spain.
Council for International Educational Exchange Scholarships: for semester and summer study abroad in Africa, the Middle East, Australia, Europe, and Latin America.
Diversity Abroad Scholarships - Economically disadvantaged students, African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino, Multiracial/ethnic or Native-American undergraduate students as well as students who study in non traditional locations (outside western Europe & Australia) are strongly encouraged to apply.
German Academic Exchange Service Scholarships: for semester or year-long study, research, or internships in Germany. All disciplines; previous study of German language not required, but strongly encouraged.
Gilman International Scholarship Program: Awards, based on financial need, for semester study abroad. To be eligible, you must be receiving a Pell Grant. To confirm your eligibility, check with the financial aid office.
Global Studies Foundation Grants
Institute for the International Education of Students Scholarships: for semester study abroad in Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Germany, China, Japan, Ecuador, England, European Union, Ireland, Italy, France, The Netherlands, and Spain.
Kentucky Institute for International Studies Semester Scholarships
National Security Education Programs David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships: Scholarships for summer or semester study in Latin America, Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Previous language study not required, but you must enroll in an intensive language course if given an award. NSEP scholarship recipients are also obligated to fulfill a service requirement after graduation. Specifically, recipients must work in the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, State, or the Intelligence Community. If, after making a full and good faith effort (according to conditions and rules established by NSEP), an award recipient demonstrates to NSEP that no appropriate position is available in one of these agencies, he or she may work in any U.S. federal department or agency. There is also an expectation that NSEP Scholars will use the language or regional expertise acquired as a result of the award in their work for the U.S. government.
