There are "roles" for everyone in theater—acting, stage management, costuming, directing, and technical theater. Check with a faculty member or read the daily Columns to discover where you fit in.
Transylvania encourages participation in all aspects of theater through experience-based class work and participation in productions in our highly flexible and well-equipped Lucille C. Little Theater.
We offer beginning and advanced courses in acting, directing, technical theater and design, theater history and dramatic literature, and playwriting. In all our courses, we emphasize both theory and practice and offer students hands-on training through acting, constructing scenery, writing plays, directing one-act and longer plays, and attending plays in production.
Transylvania University Theater stages two or three major productions each year, representing a wide range of theatrical styles and literary genres, in addition to a number of student-directed plays. Recent productions include Rhinoceros, Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls, Brighton Beach Memoirs, and the musicals Sweeney Todd and Carousel. Casting is open to Transylvania students, with no pre-casting, putting first-year students on an equal basis with other students.
Transylvania University admits students regardless of age, race, color, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, national origin, or any other classification protected by federal or state law or local ordinance.
