There are "roles" for everyone in theater at Transylvania—acting, stage management, costuming, directing, and technical theater. Check with a faculty member to discover where you might fit in.
We encourage students to participate in all aspects of theater, through experience-based class work and productions in our highly flexible and well-equipped Lucille C. Little Theater.
We offer beginning and advanced courses in acting, directing, technical theater and design, theater history and dramatic literature, and playwriting. In all our courses, we emphasize both theory and practice and offer students hands-on training through acting, constructing scenery, writing plays, directing one-act and longer plays, and attending plays in production.
Theater scholarships are open to acting and stage production students. They require participation in one major production per year. Sound good to you? Find out more and schedule an audition.
Transylvania University Theater stages two or three major productions each year. Recent productions include Aloha, Say the Pretty Girls; Brighton Beach Memoirs; Caroline, written and performed by students; and Rough Magic, a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest. Casting is open to Transylvania students, with no pre-casting, putting first-year students on an equal basis with other students.
Transylvania University admits students regardless of age, race, color, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, national origin, or any other classification protected by federal or state law or local ordinance.
