R. Owen Williams took office as the 25th president on August 1, 2010.
“Becoming the 25th president of Transylvania University is a fabulous opportunity. In fact, I find it exciting in the extreme.
“Transylvania has the best of both worlds. It’s a small, compact campus in the midst of a city of 300,000 with all its urban advantages. Our small enrollment (1,100 students) creates a strong sense of community and closeness among students, faculty, and staff. And that’s the essence of a liberal arts education.”

President Williams came to Transylvania in 2010 following a 24-year career as a Wall Street investment banker and a 10-year period of scholarly preparation at Yale University, Harvard University, and New York University. He also brought to Transylvania an impressive resume of volunteer work for non-profit organizations that included extensive fund-raising and strategic planning initiatives.
